Mooncake festival

This year Mooncake festival was both good and not-so.  The good:  Kids had lots of lanterns!  Hubby spotted a kiosk selling traditional lanterns and took them to choose theirs.  So good to see the wire-and-cellophane paper ones.  The kids made their selections and then were more interested in playing with those that had lights, movements and music.  How to fight technology... sigh.  Refused to buy any of these new 'mutants'.

Hubby couldn't resist getting a couple of extras.  Kids also made one at their art class:

Lots of lanterns!

I really like this butterfly one (think butterflies weren't one of the designs during my childhood days).  It has antenna, pretty designs and even little yellow bits at the end of the wings.

We both have fish!

Our lanterns

So lanterns, check.  Mooncakes, check.  Then when the actual festival rolled by... HAZE.  Haha.

At least hubby lit up the lanterns and the kids still had a chance to play.  On THREE different days.  Lanterns not wasted then hehe.

  1. The butterfly lantern is pretty. My sister used to have a cloth butterfly lantern about 42 years ago. Good that you all bought many lanterns this year and got to play them 3 times, can play again next year. I also don't like those plastic battery operated lanterns.

    1. I only remember dragon, rabbit, chicken, fish... haha. Yeah must keep the lanterns somewhere safe and dig up again next year.

  2. I too think the traditional lanterns the best. Those days, we make our own lanterns from cans and tins.
