iPad addict

Hello, my name is Jo Ern. I am NOT an iPad addict

Mummy take my iPAd! Mummy not nice! AaaaAAhhhh!

Sigh, what to do with my little addict? She wakes up in the morning, suddenly smiles and asks to go downstairs. Where she makes a beeline for the iPad. Actually the smile happens right when she remembers the thing. You want to feed her breakfast? Need to pry her off the iPad first. Same for other meals or if you want to make her shower, go out, take a nap, everything. She throws a small tantrum before she gets to whatever you want her to do. Then after that activity or sometimes only halfway through, she runs off to the iPad again. She's on that gadget morning, afternoon, night.

Hubby says leave her be and she'll tire of it eventually. I guess there's nothing pressing for a 3yo anyway even though I'd rather she do almost anything else.

  1. my girl loves playing with the iPad too especially when we are home, that's why I like to bring her out and about if we can.. but hard to blame her coz we are so addicted to our gadgets too! ;p

  2. Ai, tell me about it! When I start on the iPad I too don't want to stop. Keep telling hubby to stop me but he is wise enough not to try. :p

  3. jensen will only get to play at night, before bed time. at times he will be a good boy and off when he's asked to but most of the time he will cry when the ipad is taken away from him, but this boy very funny... he have a "no cry med" - his milk. the moment we stuff the milk bottle into his mouth, he's quiet almost immediately... hahaha...

  4. Cat, I wish milk would work on JE too! It's hard enough getting her to drink milk when she's in a good mood. About the only thing that will stop the crying is by offering another gadget - phone/camera - which is besides the point. :(

  5. Does the timer work on JE?
I am quite strict with the ipad on the kids. I am only worried about the long term effects it has on the eyes. I always set a time restriction for them when they play. Normally 30 mins to an hour max on average in a day. To get them off it, I will tell Ally 10 more mins...and to let her set the timer herself. 9 out of 10 time it works. Only when she feels she has not played enough, then the timer may not work.

  6. Leona, but JE doesn't know how to tell the time. Hmm this is a good way to start her looking at the clock! She's clocking wayy more than 30mins a day.

  7. i tell Jensen that the he can play a little while more only. we'll just say 5 mins n starts counting down, 3 mins, 2 mins, etc tho he dun really understand what is 5 mins... it works sometimes... different day, different tactic. worst will be the milk bottle tactic which definitely work. haha...

  8. Stacy, there are some timer apps that have cute sounds. That may intrigue JE perhaps. The app that I have... There is elephant sound when it is time up. So when ally hears it, she will comprehend that it is time to put down the iPad. It didn't work easily initially but she understood the idea after some time. Much much later and after many struggles and cries. Perhaps you could set the timer for her and show her the number of the time,
