JE's birthday 2019

JE is 9 years old!

Some things just came together.  The matchy unicorn T-shirts I'd ordered online arrived shortly before.  My mum made JE a skirt, which happened to be in the colours of the unicorn T-shirt.  So we decided to wear those for the night.  Then we went to the cake shop, and there it was - a unicorn cake!  All righttt!

I have a unicorn cake!

Slightly better view of T-shirts

On planning of the celebration... last year the kids' birthdays were activity-filled - trampoline park, interactive playgroundsScience centrebowling etc.  And since then, they had been planning how to celebrate the NEXT round.  However, all of them started new activities since then.  Swim classes, art classes, tuition, taekwando for the boys.  There aren't any big slots of time to suit everyone on any given weekend.

I googled, and found an interesting DIY pancake place. Ahh perfect for a short 'activity' before dinner.  Called them up... and they were closing down the business a couple of weeks before JE's birthday.  Gahh.

So what to do?  Replicate at home!  Bought sauce bottles, experimented with pancake batter.  All my saucepans were called to service hehe.

Who wants to make pancakes?

Turned out ok actually!

Fish pancake

Poop pancake (this SE....)

They made, they ate

Fish, smiley faces, monkey, cat, flag pancakes...

Then we went off to De Chiengmai for dinner.  It's a nice place (which is why I psycho-ed JE into agreeing to this place over her original.choice of McDonalds) with nice food.  Lighting too dim for good pictures though.

Nom nom

Our customary family photo... didn't bother getting a unicorn shirt for hubby since he won't wear it anyway.
Say cheese!

Blow my candles

Happy birthday to my darling firstborn! May you achieve all you want and stay happy and healthy.

  1. Happy birthday to JE! She is growing up in a beautiful lady! You have got a great idea for the kids to make and eat their pancake. Interesting that the pancakes come out in all those cute shapes? Such a sweet family photo and also the one JE blew the candles.

    1. Tq tq! I can't take credit for the idea haha. Never thought of 'designing' pancakes like this if not for that DIY pancake place.

  2. Happy Birthday to JE! What a great idea to replicate the pancake making session at home. Did you premade the pancakes or did the children help to make the pancake over the stove?

    1. They made the pancakes at the dining table. Then we brought the finished pans to the stove, then later the empty pan comes back to the table. :) Not as fancy as the DIY pancake shop which had built-in griddles at the tables.
