Eating adventure: Starting

I have a chair... ahmmm
Preliminary
Checked out Nestle baby foods. Looks OK but all varieties contain cow's milk. Snob mummy decides to keep to human milk for now. Heh.
.
1st try
Hubby was sick so didn't manage to visit Ikea for a high chair. Got hubby to hold Jo Ern while I fed her. First meal, brown rice pureed with milk. No interest from baby subject. Human chair impatient to get back to his computer. Rating of first try: Fail
.
2nd try, one week later
Ikea high chair acquired. Second meal, pumpkin pureed with rice and milk. Aha better reception this time. Jo Ern's tongue keeps poking out when she's supposed to be swallowing though. And she's more interested in the chair, the cup, the spoon and her fingers compared to the food itself. Still, food finished if you don't count the bits that ended up on nose, fingers, diaper, chair, floor etc. Rating of second try: Not bad!

  1. this is my 2nd attempt in commenting this blog post. somehow first attempt gave some error and that was a long comment i made... sigh..

anyway, i was saying, try not feed brown rice till later (maybe till 8 months old) coz babies generally don't have good digestive system yet. They dun digest fibre very well and might cause constipation if too much. Justin had constipation before when started solid because of carrot. Imagine that, who could imagine carrot can cause constipation. The most basic form of food for babies to start solid is rice. Give baby around a week or at least a few days to get use to a type of food before moving on to other type of food. Only at a later stage it's safer to mix a few types of food together. That way babies will be able to adjust slowly to the food and we will know if baby is unsuitable to whatever we're feeding them. Jensen is now on potato pureed with breast milk for the past 3 days and last week he was on rice cereal, by this weekend i will change his diet again. Haven't figure out what to feed him. Nestle does have rice cereal where we can add our own breast milk.

As for me, i prefer to carry jensen on my lap, with him facing front, while feeding him, rather than the high chair since he doesn't sit that well yet. That way i will be able to hold his hands (so that he won't try to grab the spoon full of food). I will just scooop a little bit of food each time and will tease his lips just a litle bit with the spoon, that way he will open his mouth bigger and once he does that i will shove the spoon into his mouth. His tongue does poke out the first time but after a few feeds he kinda learnt that concept of eating.

  2. Issit? Blogger does funny things sometimes. I left a comment on Yuen's blog before, it disappeared while the count still included it. Later on it appeared again.

Hmm I read on a baby site that brown rice was nutritious while white wasn't really, so purposely went out to buy brown. I had to boil it for ages before it became soft though. ZZZzzz. I'm using this as a base while adding other stuff on.

I'm only giving Jo Ern very little each day so there's probably not much effect. But I am also spacing out new types of food just in case.
